How does a WorkCover claim work in Victoria?
If you are injured at work in Victoria, WorkCover (WorkSafe) can cover your medical costs and pay you while you cannot work - regardless of fault. Here is how a claim works.
What WorkCover covers
Reasonable medical and like expenses, and weekly payments that replace part of your income while your injury stops you working. It also supports your return to work.
How to make a claim
Tell your employer about the injury as soon as you can, see a doctor and get a Certificate of Capacity, then lodge a WorkCover claim form. Your employer passes it to their WorkSafe insurance agent, who decides the claim.
Weekly payments and medical
Weekly payments are based on your pre-injury earnings and step down over time. Medical and rehabilitation costs are covered while they are reasonable and related to the injury.
Impairment and common-law claims
If you are left with a permanent impairment you may be entitled to a lump-sum impairment benefit. If your injury is serious and your employer was negligent, you may also have a common-law damages claim - usually run by a lawyer, often no-win-no-fee.
